Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday invited US President Barack Obama to attend the Republic Day celebrations on January 26 next year, which was accepted by the latter.

Obama will be the first US President to attend India’s Republic Day Celebrations as the chief guest.

Two months ago, Modi had met Obama in his maiden visit to the US after ascending power on September 29 and 30.

During the East Asian Summit held in Myanmar recently, the two leaders had again briefly  interacted.
