Arvind Kejriwal filed nomination from Varanasi after a massive road show

Arvind Kejriwal began his road show today morning marching towards the collector’s office with thousands of supporters waving AAP flags. He attacked Modi and Congress during his roadshow slamming the “helicopter politics” and heavy electoral expenses of Modi and Congress. He added saying himself to be an ‘Aam Aadmi’ who had come in an old jeep with barely 500 rupees in his pockets. He later filed his nomination in the presence of senior party leaders including Manish Sisodia.

The Varanasi Lok Sabha seat is currently held by senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi who had defeated gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari by 17,000 votes in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. Ansari had earlier decided not to contest elections from Varanasi to avoid division of votes. Congress has fielded Ajay Rai, a sitting MLA from Pindra assembly constituency while Kailash Chaurisya, a sitting Samajwadi Party MLA from Mirzapur and Vijay Prakash Jaisawal from BSP are the other key contenders from this lok sabha seat.

Narendra Modi will also file his nomination from Varanasi tomorrow, 24th of April. With more than 16 lakh voters, the oldest city of the country would go to polls on the 12th of May in the last phase of the general elections 2014.
